The crucial phase of the WCS Championship Series 2015 is about to start. This weekend, the Premier League of the first WCS-Saison this year begins. Right before the start, we talked to the only Danish player from Team Liquid for you and asked him some questions about the new WCS system, about his group in the Premier League, and about himself.
»When I first startet playing full-time Sc2, one of my goals
was to be the best non-korean terran«

escene.de: Hello Bunny, you had now a few weeks to prepare for your group at the WCS Premier League 2015. How were your training sessions?
Patrick ‘Bunny’ Brix: I feel like things are going decently so far, I’m still not satisfied though. It will be a very hard group to get out of.
Your first opponent in Group C will be the Mexican player Juan Carlos ‘MajOr’ Tena Lopez. What are your chances in this Terran match-up?
MajOr has always had very good TvT, and in tournament games I haven’t done too well in TvT. I think of the 3 opponents in my group he’s the toughest opponent for me, so it’s a bit unfortunate I guess. My chances should be around 50%.
Are you pleased with the new WCS system of 2015? This time, you will not as usual play against Europeans and some Koreans, but against all international players.
I think it’s good for Sc2 in general, that the foreigners have more chances, and it’s pretty fun to see people you know, compete against each other. As far as opponents are concerned, I’m only annoyed, when I don’t feel like I can get the practice they can. When you go to events and you meet the Koreans who play only on Korean ladder, it’s a lot tougher because their practice is better. That’s why I thought the Koreans living in Europe was okay.
Since the WCS 2015, players living in certain regions only, are allowed to compete for the qualifiers. That is why all current Koreans have a residence outside of Korea this time. The only exception is Park ‘ForGG’ Ji Soo. Does the small amount of Korean players increase the chances for the European players?
Well, of course it’s gonna make our chances much greater, I wouldn’t be surprised if a non Korean won WCS this season. Actually I would say, I’m rather confident that the best player is NOT Korean.
In your group, you will have to play against the Korean player Kim ‘viOLet’ Dong Hwan. How far does the training of Koreans vary from the training of other international players?
viOlet has been living abroad for a long time, so I don’t feel like his training is any better. He seems like a disciplined guy who’s playing a lot though, so he might show up in a very good shape.
Let us talk about you: The last year was a highlight of your career. At the Gfinity G3, you had been able to secure the first place and with it the prize money of $16,000. What are your aims for this year?
I’m actually having a bit of a hard time with my motivation this year, so I lost a bit of confidence. Still I really want to do well in WCS and maybe get to the finals, however I’m a bit lazy now a days so we’ll see if that’s possible. I’m going back to school in the summer, so I’d really like a good result before then.
Are you satisfied about the announcement of the new StarCraft 2 expansion Legacy of the Void made at the Blizzcon 2014, or had you looked forward to other units and game-related changes?
I’m very much looking forward to LotV, I agree with a lot of the design decisions Blizzard have made, making units faster and more harass focused. I hope the beta comes as soon as possible.
Team Liquid honored you as the best, non-Korean Terran player of the last year. How does it feel to receive such a big honor with just 22 year old?
When I first startet playing full-time Sc2, one of my goals was to be the best non-korean terran, so it means a lot to me that my performance last year was so good. I want to do my best and get good results, so I can eventually go back to school with no regrets.
Besides you, there are three more Team Liquid players in the premier league. Are you playing with your teammates to practice for such events, or like all the other pro players in ranked games against random enemys?
I’m playing customs with different people, but of course the ones in my team mainly. The only time I really ladder is when I stream now a days, it’s hard for me to grind out a lot of games, so I just do focused practice and preparation.
Your groupstage, in which you are also playing against one of your teammates, will be held in the ESL studios in Cologne in western Germany. Due to the WCS 2014, you know that place quite well. Were you happy about this draft, or had you rather preferred to play in North America for change’s sake?
I’m really happy to get to play in Germany, I think none of the players wanted to travel too far.
What is your favorite unit of your favorite species the Terrans?
I really like using Banshees to harass, it feels like a unit you can do a lot with the better you are. I was really sad when you couldn’t open Banshee TvP anymore in HotS.
Many thanks for this interview Bunny, the last words are yours.
I hope everyone will watch my WCS matches the 19 february. I’m gonna try to do my best to prepare, I think my chances of getting out are about 50:50, but I hope my games are fun and exciting!
