Dexter1: We want to get a spot for the finals

imageThe newcomer LCS-EU team „Sinners Never Sleep“ (now known as LemonDogs), which was able to defeat aAa in the summer promotion tournament, has finally found their fifth player. We talked to the new jungler, Marcel ‚Dexter1‘ Feldkamp, who agreed on an interview shortly before the season started. We wanted to know how he got into League of Legends and how his future plans look like, because his team is going with big ambitions into the upcoming matches. Another question was how well he fits into his new team und what he thinks about the current state of the jungle in League of Legends. This is a translation, the original interview in German can be found here.

»Top 4 ist ein Traum für uns und wäre eine Spitzenposition in der LCS. Top 6 ist ein absolutes Muss.«

scene.de:
Hi Marcel. Since you became an active member of the LoL Pro-Scene, you
are the new Jungler of the Team „Sinners Never Sleep”. Please Introduce
yourself.

Marcel ‚dexter‘ Feldkamp: Hi, I’m Marcel ‘dexter’ Feldkamp and I’m playing the position of the Jungler in the LCS-Newcomer-Team ‘Sinners Never Sleep’. I’m an active part of the scene since two years and I’m known for being in the Top 5 of Soloqueue-Players. I was offered to make the next step to the professional level, after I had the chance to, due to the mousesports-lineup four months ago. For the first time, I had the chance to make it into the LCS.Some people may know me from the Lille-Event of the last LCS-Splits, when I was a substitute player for „DragonBorns”.

Your job is safe now for the upcoming months due to the LCS. If that wasn’t the case, what else did you have in your mind, concerning your job and what else do you do in your spare time besides gaming?

»Top 4 is a dream for us and would be a top position in the LCS. Top 6 is an absolute must.«

Marcel ‘dexter’ Feldkamp: Hi, I’m Marcel ‘dexter’ Feldkamp and I’m playing the position of the Jungler in the LCS-Newcomer-Team  ‘Sinners Never Sleep’.

Jobwise, I would have finished school and studied media informatics or something similar afterwards. All this was delayed for one further year after I had the chance to play in the LCS and I really would like to see how far Ii can get in the Pro-Gaming-Scene. There is not much time left besides gaming, since the schedule of our trainings is very intensive, but we have a goal: We want to play on a high international level and get a spot at the S3 Finals.

Sinners Never Sleep was formed in January, which is not that long ago. You are the newest member now. Are you fully integrated into the team now and did you meet other members offline already?
In the beginning, there are always problems finding your place inside a new team, because other teams play differently, but the pool of champions of my old and my new team are close together. This made it easier for me to find my spot in the team and I feel quite comfortable now. I also take care of most of the Ingame-Calls.
It’s well known that you transfered from mousesports to SNS. How big are the differences between such a big and famous organisation and your new team?
There are not that big differences between both organisations, because Riot offers a good basis to all LCS players. Mousesports is participating in eSports for over 10 years and they are very experienced, but they missed the start after they didn’t take care of a good working team. There are more and more international organisations who wrote the history of eSports, showing up now, willing to create League of Legends-Teams, for example NiP (Ninjas in Pyjamas).
You may have followed the Allstar-Event a couple of weeks ago. How would you rate the EU-Teams compared to the North-American and Asian scene?
Compared to the Asian scene, all others simply have no chance. One of the reasons is the very efficient method how the Asians practice. Bigger organisations have an A- and a B-Team which only play eachother and give no informations out to others. Additionally there are Ingame-Coaches who do nothing else than watching replays, spotting errors in the gaming-styles and correct them afterwards. As a player, you will have the chance to focus completely on the ingame mechanics because of   this. There are only two, maybe three teams from the western region, who might have a chance to beat one of the Asian top teams. I think the only way to face eachother on the same level again, will require to get a coach as well.
You are qualified for the european LCS Summer Split. What teams do you think will be at the top by the end of the season and where do you see your own team then?
In my opinion the Top 3 will be Gambit Gaming, Fnatic and Ninjas in Pyjamas. I think EG, SK and my team will be located in the midfield and ATN and MYM will probably fight for the last two ranks. Being in the Top 4 would be an absolute dream for us and a very good rank in the LCS. Top 6 is definitly required.
What do you think changed in the position of the Jungler in general and how would you compare it to the last and maybe to the currently running season as well?
In season 2 it was all about early Gp10 Items and an Orcale. „Tanky-Support” Junglers like Skarner, Maokai and even Mundo were prefered. In the beginning of season 3 „AD-Bruisers”, preferably those with „Armor-Shred” (Jarvan IV, Xin Zhao, Vi) have been the way to go, from which the „Carry”-role was developed later on. Now, every champion -except Evelynn who only rudimentally has to ability to snowball- has been nerfed in the Jungle. On the other hand, champions like Nautilus/Sejuani/Nunu are played more often now again. Gold isn’t that important for the Jungler. You’ll need buy the most efficient Items, relating to the costs. Items like Bulwark/Aegis or Locket of the Iron as an example.
What Matchup would be the Matchup of your dreams? Is there a specific jungler you would like to play against, even from the now dominating, Asian scene?
I would be very happy to play against inSec from KT Rolster B. He is the best Jungler and he is well known for his Lee Sin. He also has a unique style of gaming and a big pool of champions. Helios from CJ Blaze also got my credit and I’m a big fan of bengi (SKT, T1 #2).
The LCS teams usually isolate themselves from outside by pulling back into their Gaming Houses, just to be better prepared for the weekly matches. Many players also have enough time then, to stream on a daily basis – are you planning such regulary streams too or do you not?
Regulary streams are on my list and I think every single one of my teammates are going to do the same. Our organisation will surely promote it very good even though Tabbz already runs a very successful stream, which is worth following.
At the end, we thank you for this interview and we wish you and your team success in the upcoming Summer Split of the EU LCS!
