Dota-2-Legende Fear tritt zurück

Wie heute am Mittwoch von Evil Geniuses verkündet wurde, zieht sich Ikone Clinton ‚Fear‘ Loomis aus der aktiven Spielerszene zurück und unterstützt das Team ab sofort als Coach. Ursache für seinen Rücktritt als Progamer sind gesundheitliche Gründe. Der amerikanische Spieler gilt nicht nur als Beispiel für Professionalität und Vorbild im gesamten eSport, er zählt zu den bekanntesten und bedeutendsten Dota-2-Spielern jemals.

Fear war über zehn Jahre als Progamer aktiv, bereits 2005 führte er in Dota sein Team PluG Pullers Inc., welches dann von compLexity Gaming unter Vertrag genommen wurden. Danach war er 2009 kurzzeitig Teil der Evil Geniuses. Nachdem er dann in mehreren verschiedenen Teams spielte, kehrte er Ende 2011 als festes Mitglied zu den Evil Geniuses zurück und verhalf ihnen zu ihrem Status als eines der erfolgreichsten und standhaftesten Teams der gesamten Szene.

2014 nahm er kurzzeitig eine Auszeit aufgrund einer Armverletzung; 2015 schließlich triumphierte EG beim International und holte sich die Aegis of Championships und somit ging Fear mit EG endgültig in die Geschichte Dotas ein. Er gehört außerdem mit Danil ‚Dendi‘ Ishutin und Benedict ‚hyhy‘ Lim zu dem Trio des Films ‚Free to Play‘ von 2011, ein Dokumentarfilm über die drei Dota-Spieler und wie deren Hingabe zum Spiel ihr Leben veränderte.

Statement Clinton ‚Fear‘ Loomis:

Today, I’m announcing my retirement from competitive Dota. I have
been living my dream of being a professional gamer for over a decade
now, and in that time I’ve accomplished each of the goals I placed for
myself and for EG Dota. Now, I have to pursue a new goal – getting
healthy. I still have a passion for Dota and for competing, but the long
term health of my arm has to come first. Thank you all for your
support.

Statement Charlie Yang:

I had a conversation with Clinton a couple weeks ago about the qualities
you want in players. We went through the typical list of things like
being hardworking, intelligent, calm. But we both agreed there was this
less tangible quality that’s innate; which is that some players are just
winners. You expect them to do well, you expect them to succeed at what
ever they do, they rise to the occasion and pressure is never a factor
for them. Artour once called this EG Blood. Even on the less successful
teams that Clinton has been on, you never got the sense that he wasn’t
great. It was just a matter of time.

Clinton is a winner. Clinton has EG Blood. I expect nothing different from him in his new role.

Fear is hands down the best Dota player I’ve ever had the privilege to
play with. Whenever people would ask about our team’s dynamic, I always
described him as the co-captain. I could always count on Clinton to make
a collected, yet decisive decision. He always had my back and I knew I
could count on him when I was lost. Fear helped me reach my potential,
and I believe he will continue to do that for players in years to come.
