Entwickler und Publisher Electronic Arts wird im Juni dieses Jahres erneut viele seiner Titel des Online-Modus berauben. Der Multiplayer wird jeweils aus ökonomischen Gründen nicht weitergeführt: „Während Spiele mit neuen Titeln ersetzt werden, schrumpft die Zahl der Spieler, die diese alten Spiele immer noch genießen, auf ein Level – üblicherweise weniger als 1% des Höchstwerts der Online-Spieler aller EA-Titel -auf dem es nicht mehr plausibel ist, die Arbeit hinter den Szenen fortzuführen, um die Spiele aufrecht und laufend zu halten“, argumentiert man auf der offiziellen Seite. Unter den Spielen sind auch immer noch populäre Titel wie Battlefield 2 oder Crysis 2, deren Multiplayer wegen des Wegfalls von GameSpy heruntergefahren werden.
