Nach über zehn Jahren geht das Modding-Tool Open IV offline. Grund hierfür ist eine Unterlassungsklage seitens Rockstar, da das Programm den Mod-Richtlinien für GTA 5 widersprechen soll. Als Begründung gibt Rockstar an, dass das Programm „Dritten erlaubt, die Sicherheitsfunktionen außer Kraft zu setzen und so die Software so anzupassen, wie es Bestimmungen von Take Two widerspricht“. Auch wenn dies nach der Meinung der Mod-Entwickler nicht der Fall sei, will man den Weg vors Gericht nicht antreten.
Die Reaktion seitens der Community folgte prompt. Auf Steam hagelte es kurz darauf zahlreiche Negativ-Bewertungen für das sonst so beliebte Spiel.

Trotz dem der Unterstützung der Community wolle man seitens der Mod-Entwickler keinen Prozess anstreben, auch wenn die Aussicht auf Erfolg gut sei.
Yes, we can go to court and yet again prove that modding is fair use and our actions are legal. Yes, we could. But we decided not to. Going to court will take at least few months of our time and huge amount of efforts, and, at best, we’ll get absolutely nothing. Spending time just to restore status quo is really unproductive, and all the money in the world can’t compensate the loss of time. So, we decided to agree with their claims and we’re stopping distribution of OpenIV.
