Nach über fünf Jahren Aufenthalt in Südkorea haben Christopher ‚MonteCristo‘ Mykles und Erik ‚DoA‘ Lonnquist bekanntgegeben, ihre bisherige Arbeit beim koreanischen esport-Sender OGN aufzugeben, um sich auf die anstehende Overwatch League vorzubereiten. Die Overwatch League wurde ursprünglich auf der Blizzcon 2016 angekündigt und soll eine stabile Umgebung für Organisationen und Spieler werden, in der auch bisher unbekannte „Pub-Stars“ ihren Durchbruch feiern können.

Teams will be formed around major cities to support the growth of a regional fan-base. There will be regular schedules, professional contracts, free agency, baseline minimum salaries and benefits, providing more stability for teams and players.
Mykles und Lonnquist werden sich in den kommenden Monaten in Zusammenarbeit mit Blizzard auf die kommende, erste Saison der Overwatch League, die im dritten Quartal 2017 beginnen soll, vorbereiten und eine komplett neue Show auf die Beine stellen. Im Fokus soll dabei vor allem ein Neuanfang für esports-Broadcasts stehen. In einem Statement gegenüber ESPN erklärte Mykles, dass die Overwatch League mehr an die aktuelle Generation angepasst werden soll, um etwas komplett neues und bisher unbekanntes zu erschaffen.

Obviously we will serve as broadcasters for the Overwatch League once it begins in Q3 of 2017, but we’re also excited to serve as consultants to Blizzard as the broadcast and shoulder content takes shape. One of the most compelling aspects of moving back to the States is the opportunity to help build a show from the ground up that resonates with fans as an authentic esports product rather than overreaching into outmoded models from traditional sports. […] I think producers often forget that and rely too much on mimicking the success of other industries without asking why the content is made that way.
