Auf der CES 2014 in Las Vegas gab Valve bekannt, dass bereits 14 verschiedene Hersteller an einer Steam Machine sitzen. Die Spiele werden auf dem Betriebssytem SteamOS laufen. Da Valve den Entwickler freie Hand bei der Produktion lies, wird es unterschiedliche Setups und Preise geben. So schwanken die Preise zwischen 499 $ (367 €) und sogar 6000 $ (4410 €). Über 250 Spiele sollen demnach auf der Steam Machine laufen die noch dieses Jahr erscheinen soll.
