In der Nacht zum Mittwoch hat Valve ein neues Update für CS:GO veröffentlicht. Dabei wurde die neue Operation Hydra implementiert und der Distanzschaden für die UMP deutlich an die anderen SMGs angeglichen. Mit Hydra kommen die drei neuen Spielmodi War Games (5on5 mit diversen Features), Wingman (2on2-Retake) und Weapon Expert (5on5, bei dem jede Waffe nur einmal gekauft werden kann), welche für alle CS:GO-Spieler verfügbar sind.
Mit einem Hydrapass für $5.99 können aber Erfahrungspunkte gesammelt werden, die sich später in Plaketten (Bronze, Silber, Gold und Diamant) umwandeln lassen. Parallel wurde das passende Case zum Update mit neuen Skins veröffentlicht und auch die Guardian-Kampagne ist wie bei den andere Operationen wieder spielbar.
Die drei Modi auf den Maps Austria, Lite, Shipped, Thrill, Black Gold, Insertion und Agency werden im wöchentlichen Rhythmus durchgewechselt. Insgesamt ist Hydra für 18 Wochen angesetzt. Damit folgt die Operation rund ein Jahr nachdem Wildfire im Juni 2016 endete.
