Die BlizzCon 2020 ist Abgesagt. Das offizielle Aus für das beliebte Event aus dem Hause Blizzard wurde nun offiziell bestätigt. Für das Frühjahr 2021 kündigte man aber die Möglichkeit eines Online-Events an.
Die Corona-Pandemie sorgt für weitere Absagen beliebter Events. Nachdem bereits die Gamescom 2020 abgesagt und ausschließlich online stattfinden wird, trifft es nun auch die BlizzCon. Dies bestätigte Blizzard am Dienstag in einem Statement.

Seitens Blizzard hat man in den letzten Wochen intensive Diskussionen geführt, in wie fern es möglich wäre die BlizzCon durchzuführen. Dabei ging es vor allem um die unterschiedlichsten Sicherheitsaspekte für Teilnehmer und Mitarbeiter. Ein wichtiger Punkt waren vor allem die Gesundheitsrichtlinien der verschiedenen Länder.

Schweren Herzens wurde die Entscheidung getroffen, die BlizzCon für dieses Jahr abzusagen. Allerdings stehen intern bereits Überlegungen an, ein Online-Event zu veranstalten. Dies benötige allerdings einiges an Planung und Vorlaufzeit.
We’re talking about how we might be able to channel the BlizzCon spirit and connect with you in some way online, far less impacted by the state of health and safety protocols for mass in-person gatherings.
In den kommenden Monaten möchte man den Fans weitere Informationen darlegen. Ebenso soll in naher Zukunft verkündet werden, wie es mit den geplanten E-Sport-Events, die traditionell auf der BlizzCon stattfinden, weiter gehen wird.
BlizzCon is also a stage for big esports events in Blizzard games each year, so we’re also looking into alternatives for supporting some of the high-level competition that would normally take place at the show.
